The anterior segment has a variety of conditions that affect it. This course will cover a variety of corneal dystrophies, degenerations, and infectious conditions of the cornea. Treatment options both surgical and medical will be discussed. The attendee will have a renewed confidence in managing conditions of the anterior segment.

Vascular retinal pathology is frequency encountered in routine optometric care. As primary care providers, optometrists are in the unique position of being able to facilitate early detection and assist in subsequent management and treatment. This course will review retinal vascular anatomy to aid in the identification of different types of retinal hemorrhages. Furthermore, it will emphasize establishing differential diagnoses based on clinical presentation and discuss the appropriate blood work required to address possible underlying systemic disease. It will also provide a brief overview of other lab work related to the renal, hepatic, and pituitary system in the context of ocular disease.

This course will go over what's needed to be successful with orthokeratology for myopia control. Specifically, we will review the types of equipment needed, staffing challenges, communication strategies with patients and parents, choosing the correct candidates, and tips on teaching insertion and removal to pediatric patients. We will also go over some orthokeratology cases to show clinical examples of how to achieve great outcomes with your patients.

Long gone are dry eye management protocol that only acts to replenish the tear film through lubrication. Today, the spectrum of management of ocular surface diseases has expanded vastly to include the use of amniotic membranes, scleral lenses, intense pulse light (IPL), Radio Frequency (RF), lipiflow, biologics, amniotic membranes, LLLT, Plasma Pens and so much more. Our course will outline the thorough diagnostic process to understand the root of dry eye disease, how to incorporate these new technologies into your clinic, and how to determine the most appropriate treatment plan for your dry eye patients.

This course explores the relationship between the most common systemic conditions that appear to influence the onset and progression of glaucoma including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, sleep apnea, and neurodegenerative diseases. The medications used in the treatment of systemic disease can also influence a patient in developing or being protected from developing glaucoma.
