Ontario Optometrists Remain Open for Urgent Care during COVID-19

April 20, 2020 – During these challenging times, optometrists are still here to take care of your urgent eye and vision issues.

“Last month, the Ontario Government declared optometrists providing emergency care to be an essential workplace,” says Dr. Joshua C. Smith, President of the Ontario Association of Optometrists (OAO). “Since then, we have been assessing and treating thousands of patients across the province.”

Optometrists are available by telephone, email, video conference, and in person when it is necessary and safe to do so. Optometrists who are not currently seeing patients will make necessary referrals for you to ensure you get the care you need.

“We don’t want patients to choose between going to an already overwhelmed emergency room and suffering at home with no care” says Dr. Smith. “If you have urgent care needs, contact your optometrist today.”
