The School of Optometry & Vision Science at the University of Waterloo, within the Faculty of Science, is seeking an outstanding scholar and researcher for a full-time, regular tenure stream faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, in the area of Eye Health Informatics and Digital Health with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2025. The interdisciplinary position will include development of oculomics, data science, and artificial intelligence applications from eye health datasets to identify disease patterns, progression, and therapeutic opportunities. The successful applicant will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to scholarship and teaching, and develop a robust, externally funded research program that supports a diversity of graduate students and post-doctoral fellows. Evidence of actively developing multi-disciplinary research and innovation involving digital health and data science is an asset. Preference will be given to investigators whose expertise is complementary to research in the School. Experience with intellectual property development, entrepreneurship and commercialization would be an asset.
Expected duties include research, teaching in the optometry professional program and vision science graduate program, and supervision of graduate students is expected. Evidence of teaching excellence, innovation and flexibility in teaching modality will be highly valued. The ability to develop and teach an array of traditional in-person and on-line courses for a diverse student body is expected. Both optometrists and individuals from other data science, health informatics, biomedical engineering, computer science, and machine learning disciplines are encouraged to apply. Applicants who are optometrists should be eligible for a general or academic certificate of registration with the College of Optometrists of Ontario.

The salary range of this position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Tenure Stream is $105,000 to
$125,000 per year. Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.
